Social Media Policy | BetterPayNY

Social Media Policy

Effective Date: April 1, 2026

Purpose

The BetterPayNY campaign maintains social media channels to educate the public, engage union members, and advocate for prevailing wage compliance on New York's solar energy projects. This Social Media Policy outlines the standards that apply to our official accounts and to interactions on those platforms.

Our Official Accounts

Content posted by BetterPayNY on our official social media accounts represents the views of the campaign and NYSLOF/LIUNA. We strive to ensure that all content we publish is accurate, respectful, and consistent with our mission to protect working families and enforce fair wage standards.

Community Standards

We welcome engagement from supporters, members, and the public. To keep our community constructive and welcoming, we ask that all participants:

  • Be respectful and civil in all interactions;
  • Stay on topic — comments should relate to labor rights, prevailing wages, solar development, or related issues;
  • Refrain from personal attacks, harassment, or threatening language directed at any individual or group;
  • Avoid posting content that is discriminatory, obscene, or defamatory;
  • Not share private or confidential information about others without their consent;
  • Not post spam, advertisements, or unrelated commercial content.

Moderation

BetterPayNY reserves the right to hide, remove, or report comments and posts that violate these community standards or applicable platform terms of service. Repeated violations may result in blocking a user from our accounts. Moderation decisions are made at the sole discretion of the campaign team.

Member Privacy on Social Media

LIUNA members who choose to share their personal stories or images in connection with BetterPayNY campaigns do so voluntarily. Content shared publicly on social media may be reposted or featured by the campaign. Members who wish to share their story privately or who have concerns about how their information is used should contact their local representative or NYSLOF directly.

No Endorsement of Third-Party Content

Sharing, liking, or linking to third-party content on our social media channels does not constitute an endorsement of that content or the views of the third party. External links are shared for informational purposes only.

Political Activity

BetterPayNY focuses on nonpartisan public education and advocacy related to prevailing wage law and labor standards on publicly subsidized projects. Social media content published by the campaign does not constitute an endorsement of any political candidate or party.

Platform Terms of Service

All users interacting with BetterPayNY on social media platforms are also subject to the terms of service of those platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, etc.). BetterPayNY is not responsible for the policies or practices of any social media platform.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Social Media Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. The current version will always be available at betterpayny.org.
